Diabetes
The Diabetes Clinics are run by our Specialist Nurses and Clinical Pharmacist. They are supported by Dr B Mehta who is our lead GP for diabetes care. It is important for the team to monitor your diabetes annually. You will receive an invitation when your review is due. Please arrange a blood and urine test 2 weeks before booking a face to face appointment with the nurse, so the results are available when they see you. It is also important you have a diabetic retinopathy eye check every 12 months. If you suspect that you may have diabetes, please book an appointment for a health check with one of the Practice Nurses.
Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
The Asthma and COPD Clinics are run by our Specialist Nurses. They are supported by Dr M Khan who is our lead GP for respiratory disease. It is important for the team to assess your asthma control annually. You will receive an invitation when your review is due. Please book a face to face appointment with the nurse. It is important you bring your inhalers with you so the nurse can assess your inhaler technique. The surgery also provides FeNO and spirometry testing. A doctor will refer you to the Specialist Nurse if you need either of these tests. Your name will be added to a waiting list and you will be contacted with an appointment from our reception team.
Coronary Heart Disease
The CHD Clinics are run by our Practice Nurses. They are supported by Dr T Ogunyiluka who is the cardiac lead GP. It is important the team monitor your heart condition annually. Your blood pressure and cholesterol should be monitored. You will receive an invitation when your review is due. Please arrange a fasting blood test 2 weeks before booking a face to face appointment with the nurse, so the results are available when they see you. You will be given lifestyle counselling at this appointment. The nurse will support you to make any necessary lifestyle changes to help improve your long term health.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
If you would like to have your blood pressure checked you can ask for this to be done when you attend the Practice to see a GP or Nurse, alternatively you can make an appointment with our Health Care Assistant. If your blood pressure is found to be high we can arrange for a 24hr ambulatory blood pressure test. Alternatively you may be asked to record your blood pressure at home twice a day for a 2 week period. The surgery is able to loan you a BP machine if you do not have one.
Anti-Coagulation Clinic
A surgery based anti-coagulation service is available. This enables patients taking warfarin to be monitored in-house instead of going to the hospital. Clinics are available on Monday mornings, Wednesday afternoons and Friday afternoons with our Specialist Nurses. They are supported by Dr B Mehta who is the lead GP for anti coagulation.
Cervical Smears
Women aged 25-49 years of age are invited for cervical screening every 3 years. Women aged 50-64 years of age are invited every 5 years. You will receive an invitation in the post when your test is due. You may also receive text reminders. Screening is important for detecting cancers early. Please book an appointment with one of the Practice Nurses when you receive your invitation. You will need to reschedule this if you start your period on the day of the test. You need to wait a minimum of 12 weeks after having a baby before booking a smear test. Please do not book a smear test if you have not been invited as a sample cannot be sent outside the screening programme. If you have any intermenstrual bleeding, post coital bleeding or issues with your periods please book an appointment with the GP.
Women’s Health and Gynaecology
The Practice can offer appointments with several female GPs. When you contact the surgery to arrange an appointment please inform the receptionist that you would like to see a female GP.
Antenatal & Postnatal Care
A midwife will look after you before and after your pregnancy. You and your new born need to arrange a 6 week post natal check with the GP.
Child Health & Immunisations
Vaccinations are essential in preventing disease. Your baby will require vaccinations at 8 weeks of age, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and again at 1 year. They will be invited for pre school boosters at aged 3 years and 4 months. You will receive invitations in the post from Child Health. Please book an appointment in the Child Immunisation Clinics which are held on a Tuesday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. These are run by our Specialist Nurses. If these days are not suitable for you then please ask the receptionist to speak to one of the Practice Nurses who will be happy to make other arrangements.
Flu Clinics are held between September and December.
Anyone aged 65 and over are entitled to a Pneumococcal vaccine.
Shingles vaccines are offered to those aged 65 on or after the 01/09/23 up to the age of 79. Two doses are required 6 months apart. If you are immunosuppressed you may also be eligible please speak to one of the Practice Nurses who will be able to advise you.
Minor Surgery
Dr B Mehta runs some minor surgery clinics. You will need to arrange a routine appointment with the doctor first for him to be able to assess and add you to the waiting list. You will then be contacted by our reception team for an appointment.
Stop Smoking Support
Smoking can seriously damage your health. Our Specialist Nurses are keen to help and support patients who would like to quit. There are many Nicotine Replacement Therapy products available. You are much more likely to succeed if you have support from a professional. Your carbon monoxide reading will be recorded at your appointment. Please book a face to face appointment with the nurse who will explain the many options available. You can also be referred to the local Stop Smoking Service for additional support. Learning Disability Annual Health Check
Learning Disability Annual Health checks is a service that is delivered by the Practice. You will receive an invitation when your review is due.
